SOUTH CAROLINA SOCIETY FOR PHILOSOPHY
Rumors if not records indicate that the Society has been in existence as far back as 1935. (One reference has been found to the Society having been founded in 1935 and meeting with the SC Academy of Sciences.) Detailed records go back only to the 1970s. Typically, Presidents are elected as Vice Presidents in the preceding year and are responsible for organizing that year's annual meeting. Starting in 1998, SCSP annual meetings were held jointly with the North Carolina Philosophical Society (NCPS) every other year, with the host institution alternating between the two states. (During the NAACP boycott of South Carolina between 2008-2016, joint meetings with the NCPS were only held every four years in North Carolina.)
